Welcome
Welcome to Sprogis.com. "Sprogis" is a Latvian name with roots in Jaunpils, which is about 70Km south-west of Riga. Sprogis families fled Latvia in at least two waves and perhaps more. At the turn of the century, the Bolsheviks relocated many individuals and families to Siberia, among them was Roberts, brother of Lizite pictured below; he was three years old. Many families lost touch and many records were lost.
I visited Jaunpils Latvia in September, 2006. I walked on land that had been a Sprogis homestead. I visited a cemetery with many Sprogis headstones. I felt a deep connection and recommend that all Sprogis make the trip. I plan to develop this site as a meeting and collection point of Sprogis. Please contact me if you are interested in connecting.

Lizate, who's brother, Roberts, was transported to Siberia at the age of three, still lives on the land. Lizate's maiden name is Sprogis and she appears to be the last to inhabit the land with her family. |
